In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Cancer Campaign in Suffolk we launched a major fundraising appeal to achieve our dream of bringing excellent cancer information, education and support closer to the people of Suffolk.

Our target is to raise £250,000 to provide an all purpose mobile cancer information service that will enable us to take aspects of our successful Cancer Information Centre, including health education, to the people who are unable to travel to Ipswich or are unaware of our services. We know that this is an ambitious target but we want to provide a vehicle with a high quality internal specification that matches that of the Cancer Information Centre based at Ipswich Hospital.

The CCIS Mobile Cancer Information Unit will be a purpose built vehicle that will travel to various locations in Suffolk to improve access to high quality cancer information and support to the general public free of charge.  The mobile unit will also be available to target the specific groups through schools, sports facilities and clubs, with cancer prevention information highlighting how to reduce cancer risk by making healthy lifestyle choices.

The Unit will be staffed by a registered professional and volunteers who will be able to provide services such as outreach complementary therapies; health & wellbeing advice, practical help and one to one support.

The Unit will be equipped with take home information leaflets on Bowel, Lung, Skin, Testicular, Prostate, Cervical, Ovarian and Breast cancer. Our trained professional will be able to talk to people one to one in our private area about any concerns they have about cancer for themselves, a relative, work colleague or neighbour.

About the vehicle

We can’t say exactly what the Unit will look like, but it will have a welcome area where people can step on, take a seat and wait to have a private one to one discussion or browse the full range of information including access to the internet  using the latest technology. We have not agreed the final design of the vehicle yet, but we do know that it will be the best facility that we can provide thanks to the generosity of the people of Suffolk.
